Wodonga Open Access Energy Storage
Project Overview
The Wodonga Open Access Energy Storage (OAES) is a forward-looking renewable infrastructure project located in Victoria’s north. Developed by Released Energy, the project will deploy an 85MW energy storage system with 10-hour storage duration, providing a total of 850MWh of firm, dispatchable energy.
Powered by BASF long-duration energy storage batteries, this project is designed to absorb excess renewable energy from the grid and release it when needed most, supporting the region’s transition to clean energy while enhancing energy reliability.
With a project cost of approximately A$300 million, the Wodonga OAES will provide scalable, zero-emission energy storage, create regional job opportunities, and help future-proof Victoria’s power network.
Key benefits include:
- 85MW x 10hr capacity – to help power homes and businesses reliably
- BASF sodium-sulphur battery technology – fire safe, proven, and long-duration
- Firmed renewable energy – helping stabilise the local grid
- Local benefits – construction and operational jobs, procurement, and training
- Regional innovation – supporting Wodonga’s role in Victoria’s energy future
